Nearly $3 million for success in higher education
Québec, February 7, 2022 – The Consortium d’animation sur la persévérance et la réussite en enseignement supérieur (CAPRES) is delighted with the Québec government’s announcement of a $2,850,000 grant for the creation of the Observatoire sur la réussite en enseignement supérieur (ORES).
Drawing on the expertise of CAPRES, which has been working for the past 20 years on the development of a culture of accessibility, perseverance and success in higher education in the province of Québec, the Observatory will be set up in the fall of 2022. While building on CAPRES’ current activities and achievements, ORES will provide a deeper understanding of important issues such as access to higher education for diverse student populations, equitable and inclusive support for students throughout their educational pathways, and successful transitions between different levels of education.
« ORES will act as a true lever for colleges and universities by pooling research knowledge, accelerating its transfer and encouraging the adoption of new practices in postsecondary institutions, thereby meeting the objectives pursued in the Plan d’action pour la réussite en enseignement supérieur. »
Danielle McCann, Minister for the ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur
« ORES will continue the mission of CAPRES while increasing its scientific and field monitoring on accessibility, perseverance and success in higher education. The Observatory will facilitate the dissemination of reliable, high-quality information tailored to the needs of the higher education community. It will also provide many opportunities for the exchange, sharing and co-creation of knowledge between research and practice.»
Caroline Lessard, CAPRES President
About CAPRES
Created in 2002, the mission of the Consortium d’animation sur la persévérance et la réussite en enseignement supérieur (CAPRES) is to work toward the development of a culture of accessibility, perseverance and success in higher education in the province of Québec. Furthermore, CAPRES aims to contribute to the reflection underlying the development and implementation of policies, programs and support measures targeting postsecondary students. It allows for the dissemination of knowledge derived from research and practice and fosters its transfer within higher education environments. CAPRES also contributes to the sharing of such knowledge while bringing together higher education stakeholders who are involved with these issues. In 2022, CAPRES celebrates its 20th anniversary and is set to become the Observatoire sur la réussite en enseignement supérieur.
