The Observatoire sur la réussite en enseignement supérieur (ORES) regrets to announce that it is forced to cease its activities as of April 1, 2025. This decision stems from the non-renewal of the service agreement with the ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur (MES).
For over 20 years, Québec’s higher education community has been able to rely on a convergence point dedicated to success in post-secondary education.
The Observatory was built on the achievements of the Consortium d’animation sur la persévérance et la réussite en enseignement supérieur (CAPRES), an organization driven by Université du Québec and financially supported by the MES. Created in 2002, CAPRES was intended for anyone involved in success in college and university education. In 2022, recognizing the expertise and reputation of CAPRES, the MES decided to broaden the Consortium’s mandate and funded the creation of an inter-level observatory to deepen understanding of the issues surrounding accessibility, perseverance and success. The creation of the Observatory was one of the flagship actions of the 2021-2026 Plan d’action pour la réussite en enseignement supérieur.
Since the official launch of its activities in March 2023, ORES has established itself at the heart of the ecosystem for success in post-secondary education. In just 2 years of existence, ORES has published:
3 thematic dossiers;
23 articles of Relais. The Popular Scientific Journal on Success in Higher Education;
22 inspiring practices;
3 Wide Angle articles;
18 scientific popularization tools;
175 information monitoring articles.
ORES has also organized or contributed to some twenty public events. It has also translated the majority of its publications to make them available to English-speaking audiences, further promoting networking and synergies within the higher education community.
By publishing a wide variety of resources, fostering constructive exchanges and promoting innovative practices, the Observatory has helped to disseminate the various trends and prospects arising from research and practice. It has provided a showcase for the most up-to-date scientific and experiential knowledge and fostered greater appropriation of that knowledge.
The team would like to express its deepest gratitude to all the organizations and individuals who collaborated in its work and supported the ORES mission. Their contribution has enabled the Observatory to become a meeting place for reflection and sharing, which has had a positive impact on several stakeholders in Québec’s higher education community.
Contents that are still available
The ORES team hopes that its publications will continue to inspire and support the actions of all those involved in promoting success in post-secondary education.
After March 31, the ORES website will no longer be updated, but will remain online. The Observatory’s contents will remain available on its archive repository.
